Ruckel Middle School, home of the Rams, has its campus next door to Niceville High School. The school has consistently rated as an A every year every year since 2001.
Ruckel Middle School was named after Charles W. Ruckel, a local developer who won a Silver Star for valor in WWI. He gave the land to the school district to build the middle school. Together with Niceville High School the campuses serve as the de facto heart of Niceville.
In total, the school educates, on average, 1,150 students per year. This makes Ruckel about 400 students larger than the Lewis School in Valparaiso, which educates students from kindergarten through eighth grade!
The School recently welcomed principal Joe Jannazzo to the school. He replaces an institution of the Niceville Community, Paul Whiddon. Whiddon had served at the helm of Ruckel since 2005. Before him, current school board member Lamar White served as the principal of the school.
In addition to their regular classes, students have the option of enrolling in one of many extracurricular activities throughout the school. Students can participate in the band program as well as the chorus program. Students can also take classes in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program available throughout the district. Students at Ruckel are able to take web design, coding and IT courses.
