Okaloosa County Election 2024: Candidates for Office

Three races will be on the ballot this summer when residents of Niceville, Valparaiso, Bluewater Bay and Eglin Air Force Base go to the polls to vote in the summer primaries: Okaloosa County School Board District 2 and Okaloosa County Commissioner District three.

Although School Board District 2 requires residency of the candidate in either parts of the Fort Walton Beach Area or Destin – all Okaloosa County residents (including people in the Mid Bay area) vote in this election.

Okaloosa County’s District Three seat covers Valparaiso and western Niceville – but all Okaloosa County residents vote for this seat as well. The incumbent on this seat has announced he won’t run again – and it has opened the seat to a field of challengers.

Finally, the western Florida Panhandle, from Pensacola to the eastern edge of Walton County, will vote for their preferred primary candidate for US Congress if they are a Republican. Democrats (thus far) have only registered a single candidate and will therefore not have a primary for this seat.

No matter what happens on August 20th, the November general election will see the winner of the Republican and Democratic primaries (as well as any other parties or people who qualify) will face off for the right to represent Okaloosa County and the rest of the western panhandle in the US Congress November 5th.
