Members of the Niceville High School Football Team took home a 1st place trophy from the Fire Truck Pull at 3rd Planet Brewing on April 23rd.

The team clocked in the fastest time at just over 11 seconds. They had to pull a fire truck some 10 yards in order to beat 10 or so other teams in the competition.

“First-prize was supposed to be $200 in beer from the brewery,” said Brewery owner Tim McCool, “but we can’t [give high school students beer], so we are going to give them $200 cash and $200 in beer to [the members of the Niceville-Valparaiso Rotary Club]. The Niceville-Valparaiso Rotary Club sponsored the football team’s entry into the contest.

“We train all year for this,” Niceville Football Head Coach Grant Thompson said as he came up with his team to accept the trophy and the award.

A joint team from the Niceville Fire Department and the East Niceville Fire Department took second place. A team from Chelco took third place.

About 500 people showed up to the event, which helped the Rotary Club raise more than $4,000 for the Twin Cities Assisted Living Facility on John Sims Parkway in Niceville. East Niceville Fire Department provided their Lucky 13 truck for the pull as well as a $1,000 check for Twin Cities.

Niceville’s 3rd Planet Brewing Company typically hosts three to four charitable events every month, according to the owners. The brewery began in Niceville in 2015 and was recently named the 2nd-best large brewery in the state of Florida by Best Florida Beer.
