Bluewater Bay Residents Avoid Traffic Crunch on Local Roads

White Point Road and Lakeshore Drive in greater Niceville will close to thru-traffic on Saturday afternoons starting on May 28th, 2022. The road will officially close between noon and 6pm.

Drivers and neighbors in Bluewater Bay should remember this situation from last year. For the past five years, the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office have collaborated in order to make sure that people are able to get out of their homes.

In the past – drivers using apps like Waze have tried to shortcut around traffic leading to the Mid-Bay Bridge by taking White Point Road and Lakeshore to cut time off the final leg of their commute to their Destin vacations.

The closure will stay in place until Labor Day, September 3, 2022.

The start and end times of the closures will vary due to traffic needs and changes in volume.

According to information from the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners public affairs team, message boards along state route 20 (John Sims Parkway) and state route 293 will activate at around 11am on Saturdays to alert drivers to the closure.
