Walton County School District is holding strong as the third-best performing district in the state of Florida, according to the latest round of state testing results released by the Florida Department of Education.
The newly published data from the 2024–2025 school year shows Walton County students making significant gains across the board, particularly in core subject areas measured by the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) and End-of-Course (EOC) exams.

In total, students placed in the Top 3 in 9 of the 21 tested categories, Top 5 in 15, and Top 10 in 20. The district also widened its lead within the third-place position compared to last year’s scores and closed the gap on second place.
Superintendent A. Russell Hughes credited the district’s consistent growth to teamwork across the board.
“We have continued to improve our standings for 9 years, and that alone is EPIC,” Hughes said. “I could not be more proud of the tenacity, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence exhibited by everyone. We continue to close the gap in our quest to being the number one school district in the state.”
Under Hughes’ leadership, Walton County has climbed from 35th to 3rd among Florida’s 67 public school districts.Formal school and district grades are expected later this summer.
