A Destin Elementary School kindergartner is receiving statewide recognition after being named one of just six winners in a major Florida student art competition tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration.

The Okaloosa County School District announced Wednesday that Destin Elementary student Claire Grelle earned top honors in the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida’s America250FL Art Contest, a statewide competition inviting kindergarten through fifth-grade students to create artwork highlighting Florida’s contributions to America.

The contest was designed as part of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration and encouraged students to reflect on Florida’s history, culture, heritage, and impact through creative expression.

Claire’s artwork stood out among submissions from across the state, making her one of only six students selected as statewide winners.

“This is an extraordinary honor, especially for a kindergartner,” said Marcus Chambers. “Claire’s creativity and talent are inspiring, and she represents the best of Destin Elementary and Okaloosa County School District.”

As part of the recognition, Claire received a two-year Florida College Plan scholarship from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation. She was also recognized by Ron DeSantis during the statewide celebration.

Destin Elementary teacher Jennifer Huffman said the school community is proud of Claire and excited to celebrate her accomplishment.

District leaders say the award highlights the creativity and achievements of young students throughout Okaloosa County Schools while showcasing the importance of arts education at an early age.
