A routine traffic stop on Monday near Fort Walton Beach resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man after deputies reportedly discovered cocaine, prescription pills, and marijuana inside a vehicle carrying a young child.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted the stop near North Beal Extension and Schneider Drive after observing a traffic violation. During the stop, an OCSO K9 alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Deputies said a subsequent search uncovered nearly 43 grams of cocaine, oxycodone pills without a prescription,n and marijuana.
Investigators also reported finding a three-year-old child in the back seat who was not secured in a car seat or wearing a seatbelt. Authorities said the child was within arm’s reach of the narcotics during the stop.
The driver, identified as Don Kenney Brown of the Fort Walton Beach area, was arrested and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
