In Brief:

  • Fort Walton Beach High School football stars Eddie Love, Jr. and Johnny Lewis, Jr. transfer to Niceville for their final season.
  • Love, committed to East Carolina University, rushed for over 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, while Lewis passed for nearly 2,000 yards over two seasons.
  • Comments from school officials, including Okaloosa Superintendent Marcus Chambers, Niceville head coach Grant Thompson, and Fort Walton Beach High School Athletic Director Holly McDaniel, are pending.

The Niceville Football Recruiting Page on X.com announced Monday afternoon two of Fort Walton Beach High School’s star players would leave the waterfront and head to Eagle Stadium to play their final season.

The pair, Eddie Love, Jr. and Johnny Lewis, Jr. are the latest in a string of players dating to before the Juanyeh and Azareye’h Thomas period who’ve moved schools to learn and also play football.

Eddie Love, Junior—an East Carolina University Commit—and his counterpart in the backfield, Johnny—combined in the Fort last year for a 5-5 record (FWB’s first non-losing season since the pair were six years old in 2012).

Love had more than 1,300 yards rushing and 16 all purpose touchdowns in last year’s campaign. He averaged almost nine yards per carry on the season as well. He has other scholarship offers from Colorado University – Boulder, Alabama A&M, SEU, North Alabama, the University of Buffalo and and assortment of schools.

Johnny Lewis, Jr – until Monday the Vikings starting quarterback – started for two years on the gridiron and also has varsity minutes for the Vikings’ basketball team. He has offers from Keiser University and Southeastern University.

Over his junior and sophomore seasons, Lewis passed for almost 2,000 yards with eight touchdowns and ten interceptions. Lewis was also named Fort Walton Beach High School’s FCA Champions of Character Athlete.
