CRESTVIEW — For the second time in a week, a member of the Okaloosa County School District is behind bars due to improper sexual conduct against a minor.

On June 12, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office announced that an 18-year-old substitute office worker at Crestview High School had been arrested for alleged inappropriate conduct involving a minor, according to statements released by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Okaloosa County School District.

The suspect, identified as Joshean Del Valle Figueroa, faces charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 16, as well as offenses against students by an authority figure.

Authorities say the incident occurred in September 2024 at Figueroa’s residence on Happy Trails Road in Crestview.

“The safety and well-being of our youth is paramount, and we will hold anyone in a position of authority fully accountable for violating that trust,” Sheriff Eric Aden said in a press release.

According to investigators, the school district was notified of the allegation in late February after a parent contacted school administrators.

The District stated that it promptly notified the Department of Children and Families, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, and the District’s Human Resources Department.

At the time, Figueroa was working in a limited capacity as a front-office substitute and did not have direct contact with students. Furthermore, the District immediately revoked his substitute and volunteer privileges once the allegation surfaced.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers in a press release. “We maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward any behavior that could endanger the health or safety of our students. When this allegation came to the District’s attention, swift action was taken to ensure student safety while the matter is investigated.”

Figueroa turned himself into the Okaloosa County Jail on June 10. Jail records show he is being held in connection with the charges.

The school district said it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
