SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting Wednesday morning in Santa Rosa Beach that left one woman dead and another person wounded, according to a news release from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were at a home on East Pinehurst Drive around 10 a.m. Oct. 1 for a civil service call when they heard gunfire from inside the residence, according to an arrest report.

Investigators determined that Mario Anthony Streete, who lived at the home, became involved in a verbal dispute with 31-year-old Sashana Antonett Williams about his eviction.

The argument escalated into a fight, during which Williams struck Streete with shoes, the arrest report said.

Witnesses told deputies that Williams’ husband attempted to break up the fight by firing a warning shot into the ceiling.

When the struggle continued, he fired again, hitting Streete in the leg. Streete then retrieved another firearm from a bedroom, loaded it and fired multiple rounds toward Williams and her husband as they tried to flee.

Williams was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Streete was confronted outside by deputies and taken into custody without further incident.

Streete was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Fort Walton Medical Center before being booked into the Walton County Jail.

Streete has been charged with discharging a firearm into a dwelling, though investigators said additional or elevated charges are possible as the case continues.

The Office of the State Attorney for Florida’s First Judicial Circuit is assisting in the investigation. Deputies said the shooting was an isolated incident and that all parties were known to each other.
