🔥 Niceville City Council approved applying for a $4.2 million Department of Defense grant to build a new fire station in Deer Moss Creek—fully funded, if awarded.
🏗️ The future firehouse would meet category five hurricane standards, required by a previous $400,000 state design grant.
🤝 The station would serve both Niceville and Eglin AFB firefighters, expanding cooperation on range and east-side emergencies.
Niceville will apply for an Air Force grant that, if awarded, will enable the city to build a $4.2 million firehouse in the Deer Moss Creek area near Spence Parkway without using city funds.
The Niceville City Council voted unanimously to authorize City Manager David Deitch to submit an application to the Department of Defense for its Defense Community Infrastructure Program.
The grant, in addition to helping the city build the firehouse, would allow Eglin’s Fire Department to train, store equipment, and work together with Niceville FD for the safety of the range and the east side of the city. The grant is 100%, meaning that the defense department would pay for the construction of the facility in full.

Earlier this year, the City of Niceville received a $400,000 grant from the state of Florida to design the future fire station in Deermoss Creek. The design of the building would make it resistant to category five hurricane winds – a requirement of the state grant.
City Manager Deitch noted that they should probably hear back by the end of the summer from the Department of Defense regarding whether Niceville has received the grant.
