MARY ESTHER The parishioners of Sts. Markella and Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church are inviting the community to take a trip to the Aegean—no passport required.

The church’s beloved annual Greek Festival returns October 17–19 at 104 Bryn Mawr Boulevard, promising a weekend filled with music, dancing, and authentic homemade Greek food and pastries.

The festival opens on Friday, Oct. 17, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., continues on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and wraps up on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Now a staple in the fall calendar, the event draws visitors from across the Panhandle eager to sample dishes lovingly prepared by the church’s parishioners. From savory classics like gyros and spanakopita to sweet desserts like baklava and loukoumades, the festival offers a whole Greek dining experience.

Guests can also enjoy Greek coffee, traditional music, and dance performances, along with vendor booths and activities for children.

While the festival is a celebration of culture, it’s also a celebration of faith. Visitors are encouraged to take guided tours of the sanctuary, where several newly completed icons will be on display for the first time.

The church, home to a diverse congregation with many ethnic backgrounds, hopes that the festival will continue to be a welcoming event for the entire community.
