All schools in Okaloosa and Walton counties will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and Wednesday, January 22, 2025, due to hazardous winter weather conditions expected to impact the region. Officials anticipate snow, sleet, and freezing rain beginning Tuesday afternoon, making travel unsafe.
The Okaloosa County School District, in consultation with Okaloosa County Director of Public Safety Patrick Maddox, announced the closures to prioritize student and staff safety. The weather system is expected to cause icy roads, bridges, and bypasses, with freezing temperatures keeping conditions dangerous into Wednesday morning.
Extracurricular activities, tutoring, and daycare services in both districts are also canceled during this period. A decision regarding school operations for Thursday, January 23, 2025, will be announced later.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor updates through the Okaloosa County School District website, social media channels, and local news outlets. For questions about specific events, families should contact their school directly.
