DUKE FIELD — An aircraft assigned to the 492nd Special Operations Wing at Duke Field crashed Thursday afternoon outside of Oklahoma City, according to the Oklahoma National Guard.
Both people on board, an active-duty airman and a civilian contractor, were on a training mission and walked away uninjured, said the Oklahoma National Guard in a Facebook post.
According to reports, at 2:42 p.m., emergency crews responded to an apparent aircraft emergency at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma City.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that the aircraft, an OA-1K Skyraider II, struck two power poles and sparked a small grass fire before landing in a field, the Oklahoma City Fire Department said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The aircraft and crew are assigned to the 492nd Special Operations Wing and operate out of Will Rogers Air National Guard Base. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The OA-1K Skyraider II is a modified, crop-duster–style aircraft designed to provide armed overwatch and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support for special operations forces.
The first mission-ready Skyraider II was delivered to Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field in April.
