In a unanimous vote – The Okaloosa County School Board named current Destin Elementary School Principal, Joe Jannazo, the new principal of Ruckel Middle School.
Crestview, Fort Walton Beach Celebrate Juneteenth, 2022.
The cities of Fort Walton Beach and Crestview will host events to highlight Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a federal holiday which commemorates the event that took place in 1865 near Galveston where United States Soldiers freed the last enslaved people in the rebellious states post e American Civil War. Annual celebrations of Juneteenth began in Texas in 1866 and continue around the country to this day.

Walgreens Will Pay $500K To Okaloosa To Settle Opioid Lawsuit
220 people died from opioid overdoses in Okaloosa County between 2016 and 2020. It makes each death worth a little over $2,500 – according to an agreement between the State of Florida and Walgreens that was made earlier this year. The total compensation to be distributed to Okaloosa County: $500,000 over the next 18 years.
Gun Stolen From Unlocked Car connected to Niceville Double Killing
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Niceville Police released information separately which confirmed to Mid Bay News one of the guns involved in the February killings of two men in the parking lot of a Niceville strip mall was stolen from an unlocked car in Okaloosa County last year.
