The wife of the man hit by a car on John Sims Parkway while riding an electric skateboard spoke with Mid Bay News about her husband’s condition.
Justina Eastlick told us that her estranged husband, Brandon, was taken off a ventilator yesterday and that his condition continues to improve.
“He’s starting to make some movement and squeezing our hands when we talk to him, and he’s starting to open his left eye,” she said.
Brandon had another CAT scan on Wednesday, September 10, which showed hopeful signs for his recovery, according to Justina. She says Brandon’s brain is not swelling up or showing other signs of significant brain damage from the crash that took place on John Sims Parkway.
He’s not in the clear yet, according to Justina, “We don’t know the extent of his injuries, as of today.” she said in a phone message on September 11. “He’s doing better,” she added.
The estranged couple has two children together. He has five stepchildren and another child with his current girlfriend.
Both Justina and Brandon Eastlick’s current girlfriend have raised roughly $300 of an estimated $10,000 they believe they will need to weather the financial costs associated with the collision.
“He’s a good dad. He takes care of every one of his kids,” Justina Eastlick said. She added that their two children together, who are three and one, have a difficult time understanding what’s happening.”She misses ‘daddy’,” Eastlick said, “She knows daddy got hurt and that dad is doing ok.”
Niceville Police responded to the scene, along with Niceville Fire and EMS. Sources at the city familiar with the situation say a number of bystanders rushed to Brandon Eastlick’s aid after the accident took place in an effort to save his life and mitigate his injuries.
An official with the Police Department confirmed Eastlick was traveling illegally on the State Highway by using an electric skateboard on the roadway.
Court records show he has not been charged with a traffic violation or crime in relation to the crash.
