Okaloosa County, Visit Pensacola, and CCA Florida are joining forces to deploy the SS United States as the world’s largest artificial reef, creating a major new tourism and conservation asset for the region.

Okaloosa County has partnered with Visit Pensacola and CCA Florida to transform the historic SS United States into the world’s largest artificial reef. The $2 million project, scheduled for early 2026, aims to enhance marine habitats, attract divers from around the globe, and boost tourism across Northwest Florida.

Okaloosa Gets Funding For Newest Artificial Reef

Okaloosa County’s Tourism Development Department (TDD) bets that the money invested in the reef will bring more adventure tourism to the shores of Destin and Fort Walton Beach in the future.
