Someone Threatened to Blow Up A Bomb At Matt Gaetz’s Home. Here’s What We Know:

Okaloosa Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home connected to Former Niceville Congressman Matt Gaetz after a bomb threat was made.

The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Facebook Page released to the public a statement which revealed they responded to the call at about 9 AM on Wednesday morning.

A family member who lives at the address was at the home at the time, but Okaloosa Sheriff’s Deputies say the former congressman does not live there.

Deputies cleared the mailbox and did not find a device. They then searched the area near the home – but did not find anything either.

A representative with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says that the threats appear to be a part of an email campaign that went to Gaetz and other people in President-Elect Trump’s orbit.

Requests for a police report from the Sheriff’s Office were denied – as the Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is still active and not immediately available for release.

Part of a larger rash of threats

The Telegraph reports about a half dozen cabinet nominees and other appointees were targeted on Tuesday in a rash of bomb threats against President-Elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks.

Okaloosa County, nor any other law enforcement agency, has made an arrest in the incident.

Penalties for Swatting in Florida

In Florida, making a false bomb threat is a second degree felony, according to Florida State Statute.

Anyone found guilty of violating this law can face up to 15 years in a state prison.
