The Okaloosa County School District and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office have joined forces for the 2024 Angel Tree Program, an initiative designed to provide holiday gifts for students from families in need. This collaborative effort, now expanded through this partnership, continues a tradition of community giving that has helped thousands of children since its inception.
Last year, more than 300 students received gifts through the program, supported by guidance counselors, school resource officers (SROs), and the generosity of local donors. Superintendent Marcus Chambers emphasized the community’s vital role in the program’s success, recalling how the district’s first year of involvement brought joy to 73 students and their families. “This partnership is meaningful because children are at the heart of it,” Chambers said.
Sheriff Eric Aden echoed this sentiment, noting that the Angel Tree initiative began in 2012 through the Sheriff’s Youth Services Division and chaplains. “This program has grown with the needs of our community thanks to the heartfelt generosity and commitment of our employees, local businesses, and citizens,” Aden said.
Guidance counselors and SROs are tasked with identifying students in need and helping them create wish lists. Community members can support the program by making monetary donations or sponsoring a student’s wish list.
