Reese Armstrong, a Fort Walton Beach High School junior, has been named Okaloosa County’s 2024-2025 Sunshine State Scholar. The Sunshine State Scholars program recognizes over 100 of Florida’s top 11th-grade students excelling in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields and planning STEM careers.
Armstrong has a 4.59 GPA and is active in academics, athletics, and community service. She is a member of the varsity tennis and golf teams, the Symphonic Band, and has served as tennis team captain and band section leader. She has also been named to the All-County Honors Band. Armstrong participates in her school’s Hope Squad, promoting mental health awareness, and the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Armstrong has participated in the National League of Junior Cotillions for five years and mentors younger students. She plans to pursue a medical career specializing in oncology or pediatrics.
The Sunshine State Scholars program requires applicants to submit an essay, recommendation letters, academic records, and a resume. Armstrong will join other honorees in Orlando, Florida, in June for a two-day event to connect with STEM employers and colleges.
Superintendent Marcus Chambers said, “The Okaloosa County School District is incredibly proud of Reese Armstrong’s accomplishments and her well-deserved recognition as a Sunshine State Scholar. Her dedication, leadership, and passion for learning exemplify the excellence we strive for in our schools.”
