A 35-year-old man from DeFuniak Springs is facing a staggering list of criminal charges after deputies say a traffic stop escalated into a multi-charge arrest involving drugs, weapons, and a brief attempt to flee law enforcement.
According to records from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Fabian Joseph Rutherford was taken into custody on March 19, 2026, following an early morning incident that led to 40 total charges, ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies.
Authorities say Rutherford faces multiple felony charges, including trafficking in amphetamine or methamphetamine (14 grams or more), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement with lights and sirens activated.
In addition to those charges, Rutherford is accused of possessing drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, and obstructing an officer without violence.
Perhaps most notably, court records show 30 separate counts of possession of a harmful new legend drug without a prescription, dramatically increasing the total number of charges filed in the case.
Rutherford was booked into the Walton County Jail with a bond set at $100,000. As of the latest available information, he remains awaiting trial.
While booking records list Rutherford’s height at 7 feet 6 inches, that detail appears unusually high and may be a clerical error. Either way, this Florida Man has been very busy.
The case is being handled through the Walton County State Attorney’s Office, with proceedings beginning shortly after his arrest.
