Can You Hear ‘Em? Eglin Roars to Life for Night Flights.

In Brief:

  • The 58th Fighter Squadron will conduct night flying operations over Eglin Air Force Base and nearby areas from May 20-22 between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
  • These operations are crucial for training F-35 pilots to handle real-life missions in low-light conditions.
  • Civilians may experience disturbances due to the noise of aircraft flying overhead during these night training sessions.

Stock up on your caffeine of choice and brace yourself for the possibility of interrupted sleep over the next couple of nights. The 58th Fighter Squadron will perform night flying operations over Eglin Air Force Base and surrounding areas on May 20-22 between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The 58th Fighter Squadron, commanded by Lt. Col. John Green, aims to train, develop, and graduate the world’s finest F-35 pilots. The squadron utilizes over 58 U.S. military, government civilian, and contract personnel to help accomplish their mission. On average, the 58th Fighter Squadron training program produces over 60 world-class F-35 pilots annually.

Night flying is an essential requirement for the 58th Fighter Squadron training operations, as it prepares fighter pilot trainees to complete real-life missions that take place in little to no daylight. However, night operations could mean a couple of evenings littered with the roar of aircraft flying overhead for civilians.
