Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast has expanded maternity services at The Family Birth Place by partnering with OB Hospitalist Group to enhance maternal safety and reduce emergency room wait times for expecting mothers in Walton and Okaloosa counties.
Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast is boosting care for mothers and babies through a new partnership with OB Hospitalist Group (OBHG), the hospital announced on June 24.
The collaboration expands maternity services at The Family Birth Place in Miramar Beach—home to the only neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) serving families in Walton and Okaloosa counties.
“With one of the fastest-growing populations in the country, we need to keep pace with demand,” said Trey Abshier, president of Sacred Heart Emerald Coast. “This partnership will help us continue to meet those needs while maintaining the high-quality care our patients expect.”
OB hospitalists are on call around the clock to handle obstetric emergencies when a patient’s regular OB-GYN isn’t available. These specialized physicians provide care for unexpected complications, emergency deliveries, and immediate medical concerns, such as bleeding, contractions, or high blood pressure.
“No matter what time you or your unborn baby may need care, OBHG hospitalists add an extra layer of safety,” said Dr. Deborah Edgeworth, OBHG’s medical director at Sacred Heart Emerald Coast.
The partnership will also introduce an OB Emergency Room (OB ER) to the facility to reduce wait times, increase safety, and improve outcomes for laboring and expecting mothers.
“Together, we will continue our strong commitment to mothers, babies, and their families,” said Erica Bottom, director of The Family Birth Place.
The hospital also participates in Florida’s first postpartum wristband initiative, designed to ensure new mothers receive appropriate medical care in emergencies.
