A U.S. Army captain stationed at Fort Gordon in Georgia is facing more than 40 felony charges in Walton County, including eight counts of sexual battery on a child, following a multi-agency investigation.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that 30-year-old Sean Benjamin Cushman was arrested on July 15 in South Carolina on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. His arrest followed a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Investigators in South Carolina executed a search warrant at Cushman’s home in Aiken County, where they found images and videos of child sexual abuse on Cushman’s phone. According to WCSO, more than 15 of those images and videos were recorded in Walton County, specifically in Santa Rosa Beach.

On August 25, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office contacted Walton County investigators about the material. WCSO confirmed that the content involved a victim under the age of 18.

Cushman now faces the following active warrants out of Walton County:

  • Eight counts of sexual battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 18

  • Seventeen counts of possession of child pornography

  • Seventeen counts of manufacturing child pornography

A spokesperson for the Army’s 780th Military Intelligence Brigade confirmed that Cushman was an active-duty soldier assigned to the 11th Cyber Battalion, U.S. Army Cyber Command, at the time of his initial arrest.

The case remains under investigation by local, state, and federal authorities.
