Niceville native Ella Schaefer is set to release her new queer rom-com novel, The Christmas Pick, on November 15, 2024. The book follows the story of Ava, a tech CEO, and Jo, a Christmas card photographer, as they navigate an enemies-to-lovers romance set in a fictional queer-friendly town. Schaefer, who co-wrote the book with her creative partner, hopes to bring fun and inclusivity to queer storytelling while highlighting the personal journey of self-discovery.

Taylor, a longtime educator with over three decades of experience in the Okaloosa County School District, succeeds Dr. Scheree Martin, who was reassigned following disciplinary issues. Taylor brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, having previously served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in the district.

NWF Ballet Needs Money After Governor Vetoes Budget
Northwest Florida Ballet is among numerous arts organizations statewide facing budget shortfalls due to Governor Ron DeSantis’s veto of $32 million in funding for Florida’s Cultural Museum and Cultural Facilities grants. Todd Eric Allen, CEO and Creative Director of Northwest Florida Ballet, expressed concerns about the severe impact on local arts. Despite the challenging financial landscape, Allen urged patrons to increase their support to help sustain the Ballet’s operations.
