From Top Finishes to Big Future: Chilton Lands Liberty

SANTA ROSA BEACH — Seacoast Collegiate High School senior Calvin Chilton is taking his talents to the next level.

Chilton officially signed with Liberty University on Friday, committing to continue both his academic and athletic career in track and field. The signing ceremony, held on campus, drew support from family, coaches, classmates, and school leaders.

The standout student-athlete has built a strong résumé competing at some of the nation’s top meets. In 2023, Chilton finished in the top eight at Nike Outdoor Nationals and followed that performance with a fourth-place finish at the AAU Junior Olympics in 2024. Despite battling injury, he also qualified for both Nike and New Balance Indoor Nationals in consecutive years, a mark of consistency among elite competitors.

Chilton isn’t done yet. He plans to compete this summer at Under Armour Outdoor Nationals, with his sights set on qualifying for the USA Under-20 Nationals in Eugene, Oregon.

While track has been his primary focus, Chilton also contributed as a member of Seacoast’s golf team this past year.

In the classroom, he has matched his athletic success with academic excellence. As a dual enrollment student through Northwest Florida State College, Chilton will graduate in May with both his high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree. He carries a 4.0 college GPA and a 4.426 weighted GPA at Seacoast.

“Signing with Liberty University is a dream come true for me,” Chilton said. “I’m incredibly grateful for my family, my coaches, my teammates, and everyone at Seacoast who has supported me along the way.”

School leaders say Chilton represents the standard they aim to set.

“Calvin is an exceptional example of discipline, determination, and leadership,” said Principal Drew Ward. “His commitment to excellence both in the classroom and in competition has been inspiring.”

Chilton’s signing highlights both his personal dedication and the broader impact of Seacoast Collegiate High School’s academic and athletic programs as the school continues preparing students for success beyond graduation.
