One of the bright spots of the local community is the support that is generated during the most difficult times. At the DeFuniak Springs City Council meeting held last week, Kim Wennerberg took the initiative to share a local outreach opportunity to “do something good” for a friend and neighbor of DeFuniak Springs. Wennerberg introduced an effort called “Cami’s Day” that will take place on May 30 at the Amphitheatre, 1184 Circle Dr. in DeFuniak Springs, from 4 -8 p.m. Cami Dewees Morgan is a local business owner who lives, works, and serves with an attitude that calls everyone to “Live Fully” in everything you do.
Recently, Cami Morgan was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. For some, this diagnosis would have been too much to handle, but Cami (a cowgirl at heart) took the proverbial “bull by the horns.” She recently had major abdominal surgery to remove a large tumor, and Wennerberg reports that Cami is focusing on recovery from this first hurdle to begin her fight to beat cancer. With no medical insurance, those who know and love Cami Morgan are taking many opportunities to raise money to help cover the family’s medical costs. Cami is married to Neil Morgan, and they have 4 children. The youngest is 5 years old.
Community Comes Together – Big Event on May 30th.
Mid Bay News asked Wennerberg about the outpouring of support to come alongside Cami Morgan in her battle to fight cancer. Wennerberg said, “Some know Cami from the community as a friend and the Morgans as a family. Cami is the owner of The Pink House Aesthetics & Wellness Boutique. When anyone encounters Cami, they feel cared for – it’s just Cami’s nature. She has the sweetest spirit. She is soft-spoken and calming. She lives and serves others with the hands and feet of Jesus.” With a large heart for others and always leaving a huge impact on the lives of others, Wennerberg, Tim Jackson (Storyteller Concert Series), Jaden Broadway (Executive Director of Main Street DeFuniak), and Kelli Misener (Iron & Grape Italian Kitchen) joined together to create Cami’s Day that will be held on Saturday, May 30. Wennerberg said, “Everything – every dollar received at this important fundraising event for Cami Morgan will go directly to her for her medical care.”
The “Cami’s Day” event will be ‘jam-packed’ with entertainment. Rockland Road Band will be the headliner for the evening, along with Luke Langford and Matt Miller. The Rockland Band is led by Paul Martin, singer/guitarist of the country music group, EXILE. Martin’s wife is Jamie Allen, the daughter of Oakridge Boy Duane Allen. The other members of the band include their four children and Grand Ole Opry singer, Norah Lee Allen. In addition to great live music, there will be food trucks and local merchants serving food to benefit Cami Morgan. All sorts of beverages will be available (including beer and wine). Admission for this fundraiser is $50 per person. All proceeds go directly to benefit Cami Morgan.
Lighting the Way for Cami
Wennerberg shared that at the end of the evening, there will be a launch of paper lanterns where those attending may write a prayer or place a “good thought” in the lantern that will symbolize those thoughts and prayers for Cami being lifted up. Lanterns will be available for $20. In reflecting on a recent conversation with Cami, Wennerberg recalled this: “She [Cami] believes with everything that is in her that God is bigger than this [the battle with cancer]. Wennerberg added, “Cami is already covering this journey in prayer.”
