FORT WALTON BEACH — Trinity United Methodist Church celebrated its 65th anniversary this year by giving back to the local community through initiatives aimed at supporting students and families in Okaloosa County.

As part of its Jubilee year celebration, a year dedicated to reflection, gratitude, and service, the church set a goal to pay down $906 in outstanding student lunch debt at Shalimar Elementary School. The congregation’s contributions exceeded expectations, allowing the church to also provide over $400 in support to reduce lunch debt at Pryor Middle School. Additional funds were used to help Trinity Preschool families clear outstanding tuition balances, ensuring that children could continue their education without financial barriers.

“We are so grateful for Trinity United Methodist Church’s generosity and support of our students and families,” said Amy Klugh, Principal of Shalimar Elementary School. “Acts of kindness like this truly make a difference and remind our students that their community cares about them.”

Okaloosa County School District Superintendent Marcus Chambers highlighted the church’s ongoing partnership with local schools. “Trinity United Methodist Church has a long history of giving back to Okaloosa schools, and this is another example of how our community rallies around students,” Chambers said. “We are incredibly thankful for their continued commitment to supporting education.”

The effort included leadership and participation from church and school representatives, including OCSD Food Services Program Director Steve Anderson, Principal Amy Klugh, Worship Arts Minister Ben Savage, Children’s Director Jessica McClung, Pastor Christina Shaver, and Dean Greg Thomas.

Trinity United Methodist Church’s Jubilee year is designed to emphasize both reflection on the church’s history and active engagement in the community. The initiative to help students with lunch debt and preschool tuition reflects the church’s broader mission to support families and education in Fort Walton Beach and the surrounding areas.

Church leaders noted that the success of this program was made possible by the generosity and active participation of the congregation. “This effort shows how much can be accomplished when a community comes together to support its students,” said Pastor Christina Shaver. “We are proud to help families in need and to be part of a stronger, more connected community.”

The donations also demonstrate the tangible impact local faith organizations can have on public education, contributing to student well-being and reducing financial stress for families. By addressing lunch debt and tuition balances, the church provided immediate relief and highlighted the importance of community engagement in supporting educational success.
