“I just wanted to say thank you to all of you, especially the manager for placing his trust in me. He’s already been keeping me busy,” Kukulus said, “Long story short, I grew up in a small town. I worked my way through the fire service. When I retired as the deputy chief out Reno, Nevada, at a large organization about 11 stations. And I’m happy and nostalgic to go back to a small town and a small fire department where we all know each other. It is a family. Just like Chief Mayville and his son here, my kids grew up on the back of a fire truck as well. So we’re all excited, and I look forward to getting to know the rest of the community and hearing what all their needs are, and hopefully carrying the torch forward.”

Kukulus, a veteran of the Reno Fire Department in Nevada will replace outgoing chief Tommy Mayville at a change of command ceremony on July 11 at 10:00 at Niceville’s Firehouse on Partin Drive.

He retied as a Deputy Chief three years ago and relocated his family to Navarre.

Mayville served in the Niceville Fire Department for 43 years.

Chief Mayville has invited everyone in the city to a retirement party at 3rd Planet Brewing on July 16, starting at 6 PM.
