Two high school seniors, one from Freeport High and one from Rocky Bayou Christian School, each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Emerald Coast Public Relations Foundation.
Two graduating seniors from Walton and Okaloosa counties received scholarships this week from the Emerald Coast Public Relations Foundation, marking a first for both Freeport High School and Rocky Bayou Christian School.
During the Emerald Coast Public Relations Organization’s monthly luncheon on June 10, the foundation awarded $1,000 in scholarships to Zachary Neconie of Freeport and Macy Wanner of Rocky Bayou Christian School in Niceville.
Wanner, who will attend Samford University in Birmingham this fall to major in business, received the Sherry Harlow APR Scholarship, presented by Harlow herself. Wanner’s essay focused on the importance of integrity in marketing materials.
Neconie, who is dual-enrolled and plans to attend Northwest Florida State College before transferring to Florida State University, received the Eglin Federal Credit Union-sponsored scholarship. Melissa McSwain of EFCU presented the award, which honored Neconie’s essay on the need for transparency in public relations.
Scholarship applicants must reside in Okaloosa, Walton, or Santa Rosa counties, hold a minimum 3.5 GPA, be U.S. citizens, and intend to major in public relations, marketing, journalism, or communications.
The Foundation has awarded twelve scholarships in recent years to students from Crestview, Niceville, Pace, Milton, Gulf Breeze, Choctawhatchee, and Fort Walton Beach. This year’s awardees mark the first from Rocky Bayou Christian and Freeport High.
