Okaloosa County, in collaboration with Jacobs Engineering, is set to host the first public meeting for the Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Planning Project on Tuesday, July 30th. The meeting will occur from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Okaloosa County Administrative Building Training Room at 1250 N. Elgin Parkway, Shalimar, Florida. This event is open to all residents interested in learning about future flood mitigation efforts and the potential impacts of flood events on the community.
“Preparing in advance for possible disasters is an important part of public safety,” stated Okaloosa County Board Chairman Paul Mixon. “I encourage Okaloosa residents to take part in this project so they can be better informed about how to protect themselves from any future flood events.”
Attendees of the meeting will have the opportunity to hear from County staff and representatives from Jacobs Engineering about the initial stages of data collection, methodologies, evaluation criteria, and analysis techniques. The discussion will also cover potential vulnerabilities and impacts on local communities. Furthermore, attendees will be invited to provide input on the initial stages of the Vulnerability Assessment Project and participate in a question-and-answer session.
The Vulnerability Assessment Project is an initiative to protect Okaloosa County from environmental risks, such as rising sea levels and flooding.
