OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – State and local authorities are investigating the death of a 73-year-old woman who was found in her vehicle Tuesday morning on the shoulder of Interstate 10. According to a statement from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the discovery was made near the 64-mile marker on the eastbound side of the highway.
An OCSO deputy on patrol reportedly noticed the parked silver sedan around 8 a.m. and approached to investigate. The deputy found the woman unresponsive inside the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location and subsequently pronounced her deceased at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol has now taken the lead on the case, with the Sheriff’s Office assisting. While officials have stated that they do not suspect foul play at this stage, they confirmed the investigation remains active. The woman’s identity is being withheld until her family can be notified. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death.
