New Year’s Day 2023 is almost upon us – and this is a holiday that Niceville takes a little less seriously. It’s not like our Independence Day bash with a fireworks show crescendo over Boggy Bayou, nor does it have a ton of fanfare, like the Niceville Christmas Parade. It’s a pretty low-key event for our part of the Choctawhatchee Bay.

But that doesn’t mean nothing is going on!

Here are the top five things to do to bring in the New Year in Niceville (besides sitting in your La-Z-Boy and watching Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon drink a lot).

1. Parker Willingham at 3rd Planet Brewing

Speaking of drinking – Niceville’s 3rd Planet Brewing will host Parker Willingham, a local musician on their main stage from 6-9 New Year’s Eve. The beer will be flowing, and plenty of people typically show up for a concert like this. Plus, you’ll get a sneak peek at what the annual bonfire will look and feel like (coldish) in just a couple of weeks.

Willingham is an NHS Graduate who spent time in Nashville singing and songwriting. The brewery invites people to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the event to have a listen.

Fuel Burgers will be the food truck out for the evening.

You could enjoy the entire event, celebrate the new year for Iceland and be in bed by 2230.

2. LJ Schooner’s Glitz and Glam Event

The team over at LJ Schooners will welcome DJ Diamond Dan to their dockside stage on New Year’s Eve. Jewelry, heels, dresses and suits are a must for this classy event that runs from 9pm to 1am.

Schooner’s restaurant will stay open until 10pm and the Oyster Bar will keep the lights on until 2am. The restaurant will serve braised short ribs with a molten lava cake á la mode for dessert.

Reservations for dinner are recommended.

3. Cru Tapas and Wine’s New Year’s Eve Special

Cru Tapas and Wine Café’s wine special will start with a happy hour a 5pm and serve dinner until 9pm. They set you up with a bottle of sparkling wine for $25 per bottle.

4. Boathouse Landing

On the western bank of Boggy Bayou, Boathouse Landing will host a New Year’s Party of its own until midnight. Ryan Frederick Stroud will ply his musical talents for the Valparaiso-area restaurant.

The chef is preparing a three-course dinner with a complimentary champagne toast. Entrees include a choice of appetizer, featured salad and the aforementioned champagne toast. The menu is on from 4-5:30 with music afterward. Reservations are highly recommended.

5. Something in Destin, Fort Walton Beach or Santa Rosa Beach

If you are looking for more excitement in your life, there are plenty of options across the bridge on New Year’s Eve! You can…
