In a celebration of community dedication and kindness, Karina Orr has been selected as the winner of the Niceville Good Neighbor Award for December, presented by the Ryan Cabaniss State Farm Agency. This monthly honor recognizes individuals who exemplify selflessness and positive impact in the Niceville area, and Orr’s victory stems from her exceptional contributions that have touched countless lives.
Orr says that she does most of her volunteering through two local Catholic churches: Holy Name of Jesus and Christ Our Redeemer. She began to help because she wanted to ensure as many people as possible felt valued and seen. She helps to lead the mom’s group and helps to organize the Holy Smokes BBQ that takes place every year as well.
“If you’ve ever felt looked over or less than, helping someone else ensures they don’t feel that way; they feel welcomed and important,” Orr said, “One positive thing can wipe away a lot of bad.”
Orr’s path to winning the award began with a heartfelt nomination from an anonymous community member who highlighted her boundless generosity and talents. “She gives her heart to all of those around her,” the nominator explained. “She’s a good listening ear, creative writer, great baker (especially her breads), and loves her family above all. She’s taken on projects that benefit others locally and smashed it out of the park with the donations she procured and the community she gathers together for the causes.”
What set Orr apart in the selection process was her proven track record of turning compassion into action.
The Niceville Good Neighbor Award, sponsored by Ryan Cabaniss State Farm Agency, involves a nomination process where community members submit stories of outstanding neighbors (you can nominate someone here). A panel reviews the entries, evaluating based on impact, consistency, and inspiration. For December, Orr’s nomination stood out among submissions, earning her the well-deserved win just in time for the holiday season.
Ryan Cabaniss, owner of the State Farm Agency, praised Orr’s achievement: “Karina’s story is a perfect example of what this award is all about. She didn’t just help individuals; she built stronger connections within our community. We’re thrilled to recognize her as our December Good Neighbor.”
Orr’s win serves as a reminder of the power of everyday heroism. As she accepts this honor, she continues to inspire others to contribute in their own ways. Nominations for future months are open, inviting more stories of kindness to be shared.
