The Okaloosa County School Board recognized student athletes from Ruckel Middle School and Niceville High School in March for recent state and national championship wins in dance and cheerleading.
At the March 10 school board meeting, the board honored Ruckel Middle School’s Dance and Cheerleading Teams for earning titles during the 2024–25 competition season. The Ruckel Dance Team won the 2025 Universal Dance Association (UDA) Junior High Division Game Day State Championship, marking its second consecutive win in that category. The team also placed second in the Junior High Pom division at the state level, earning sixth place in the nation in Junior High Pom and eighth place in Junior High Game Day at the National Dance Team Championship.
Ruckel’s Cheerleading Team won the 2025 Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Large Junior High Division National Championship.
At the March 24 school board workshop, the board also recognized the Niceville High School Cheerleading Team for winning its sixth consecutive Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 2A Large All-Girls State Championship.
Niceville Cheer Coach Tanya Herndon told the board the 2025 title was the hardest-earned of the six due to the team’s recent move to Class 2A and competition against what she described as one of the top programs in the state.
