The Okaloosa County School District honored 619 graduating seniors Tuesday night for their academic accomplishments at the Anne T. Mitchell Academic Senior Honors Assembly. The event took place at Northwest Florida State College’s Raider Arena on April 22.
Students from Baker, Choctawhatchee, Crestview, Fort Walton Beach, Laurel Hill, and Niceville High Schools were recognized for earning a weighted grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Qualifying seniors received distinctions based on GPA: Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude.
“This is a great opportunity to recognize the academic success of our students,” Superintendent Marcus Chambers said during the ceremony. “Each of these seniors has shown outstanding dedication throughout their high school years.”
The district also highlighted students’ involvement in extracurricular activities, including fine arts, athletics, and school clubs.
As part of the event, the district announced this year’s recipient of the Peggy Gorday Bruner Award, which goes to a senior who demonstrates academic and community excellence. Tina Le, a student at Choctawhatchee High School, was selected for the honor.
Chambers also acknowledged the role of families, educators, and community members in supporting the students’ achievements.
The Anne T. Mitchell Academic Senior Honors Assembly is held annually to recognize high-performing seniors across Okaloosa County.
