🚓 Oklahoma man arrested after allegedly threatening to bomb the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners building on Facebook.
💣 Suspect claimed he would use ammonium nitrate and act alone “if all else fails,” citing anger over the SS United States issue.
📹 Law enforcement recorded a confession, where the man admitted making the threat but said he didn’t intend to follow through.
Law Enforcement arrested an Oklahoma man in the Sooner State and accused him of threatening to blow up the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners Building.
“I’m going to go OKC on the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners Building,” Trey Root said on a Facebook Group called “Save the SS United States, Boycott Okaloosa County.” In addition to the threat, Root told the group he would carry out the attack alone “if all else fails” and use ammonium nitrate explosives on the building.
Root, 22, lives in Alva, Oklahoma – about fifteen hours from the Okaloosa County Courthouse.
Law enforcement in Okaloosa County became aware of the threat on April 22. Soon after, a senior investigator with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office contacted law enforcement in Alfalfa County regarding the message. Eventually, police with the Cherokee Police Department located and arrested Root.
In a videotaped interrogation of Root, police say, “Root admitted he had made the bomb threat, threatening to blow up the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners building.”
Root also told law enforcement that he was angry about the situation with the SS United States but did not plan to carry out his threat.
