Okaloosa County School District Superintendent Marcus Chambers has been elected president of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Board of Directors. The board voted during a meeting on Monday, September 23, in Gainesville.

The 13-member board serves as the executive authority of the FHSAA, which oversees interscholastic athletics across the state. Members are either elected by the association’s membership or appointed by the Governor of Florida and confirmed by the Senate. Each serves a three-year term and may be reappointed once.

Chambers was appointed to the board by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 21, 2024. Since then, he has worked with other board members on policy and support for student-athletes, coaches, and schools statewide.

In a statement, Chambers said he was “truly honored” to serve as president and emphasized the role high school sports play in building character, teaching teamwork, and providing opportunities. He added that his own experience as both a player and a coach has shaped his leadership.

“Throughout my youth and now as an adult, sports have been an integral part of my life,” Chambers said. “Growing up, I spent countless hours playing various sports, which taught me the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. These experiences have profoundly shaped who I am today.”

The FHSAA, established in 1920, regulates athletic programs for high schools throughout the state of Florida. More information about the organization is available at www.fhsaa.com.
