Okaloosa County has officially entered mosquito-fighting mode as summer heats up.

Spraying begins one hour before sunset and rotates through neighborhoods on a set schedule. Residents can check when their area will be treated by viewing the full 2025 Mosquito Spray Schedule or by visiting the county’s Mosquito Control page for tips, maps, and contact info.

The Mosquito Control Division reminds residents that controlling the mosquito population is a shared effort. While trucks and technicians cover public areas, homeowners can help by dumping standing water from bird baths, plant saucers, and bucketsβ€”any container that can collect rainwater is a potential breeding ground.

β€œOur goal is to reduce the mosquito population and help keep families safe and comfortable outdoors,” said a spokesperson from Public Works. β€œBut it takes a team effort. Community members can do a lot just by checking their own yards.”
