Major General William Clark Norris, 98, of Niceville, Florida, passed away peacefully at The Manor at Bluewater Bay, Niceville, on November 4, 2024.
Born on September 20, 1926, in Port Jervis, New York, where he graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1944, Bill led a remarkable life, dedicated to both his country and his family.
A proud member of the United States Air Force, Major General Norris was drafted during World War II in 1944 and went on to have a distinguished military career spanning more than thirty years.
He served in various key roles, earning numerous accolades and commendations for his bravery and leadership.
His military service was marked by his unwavering dedication to his troops, his country and his strategic vision, which earned him the rank of Major General. His career included time in combat zones, and he played a pivotal role in both the Korean War and Vietnam War, where he received multiple awards for
valor and service.
Bill was a command pilot and was current in eleven different fighter aircraft. His military decorations and awards include the Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying
Cross with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with twelve oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
In addition to his professional achievements, Major General Norris was a devoted family man and an avid golfer and lover of all sports. He and his beloved wife, Marcie Myhra Norris of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, were married for sixty-eight years, and together they raised a family that carried forward his values of loyalty, honor, discipline and hard work.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Norris) Tucker of Spicer, Minnesota (David Tucker) and Matthew
Norris of Boston, Virginia (Ken Courtade); grandchild, Spencer Selle of Arlington, MN (Janessa); great grandchildren, Brezlyn and Maddex Selle; and a niece and grand nephew, and their families.
We all cherished his wisdom, inspiration and sense of humor. He was the last of the “old guard”; a member of a generation that shaped and defined our military and our country.
Bill lived a life rich in
love, dedication, and service to his family and community. His legacy of courage, leadership, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Marcie; his grandson, Justin Selle; and many other dear friends and family members.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced, with burial at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls, MN, with full military honors.
