Northwest Florida State College has asked the former CEO of Enterprise Florida and former Florida State Secretary of Commerce Jamal Allen Sowell to give the keynote address at graduation on May 7th.

Sowell, a former Marine Captain and current United States Naval Reserve Officer will give the commencement speech at the 57th iteration of Northwest Florida State College’s graduation ceremony.

Sowell is a University of Florida alumnus. While in Gainesville, Sowell served as the student body president and vice-chairman of the students association. After graduation, he earned his Masters in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his law degree from the University of Indiana.

Northwest Florida State College, with its main campus in Niceville, offers a variety of two and four-year degrees, vocational training, and professional certificates.

According to Community College Review, the college serves approximately 5,000 students. A little less than half are full-time students.
