The Northwest Florida Lady Raiders Basketball Team (29-3) will advance to the next round after taking the Wallace State Community College-Hanceville to task in their first game of the NJCAA National Tournament – after a strong second-half performance in a 59-41 contest.
The Raiders will return to the court in the NJCAA National Tournament on Saturday, March 29 at 5:45 PM. As of press time, their opponent has not been announced.
After a tightly contested first quarter, where Wallace State led 11-10, Northwest Florida took control in the second quarter, outscoring their opponent 17-9 to take a 27-20 halftime lead. Despite a low-scoring third quarter, Northwest Florida pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Wallace State 22-13 to seal the win.
Nevaeh Scott led Northwest Florida with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including three three-pointers. Kyla McBride added 13 points, while Deborah Davenport contributed six points and a game-high 19 rebounds. The team shot 42.6% from the field and outrebounded Wallace State 40-27.
Wallace State struggled offensively, shooting 27% from the field and 19.4% from three-point range. Kallie Tinker and Idaysia Mercer led their team with 11 points each. Sinaya Gibson added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Northwest Florida limited Wallace State’s scoring opportunities with strong defense, forcing 12 turnovers and holding them to single-digit scoring in the second and third quarters. The win keeps Northwest Florida on track as they continue their season.

Kyla McBride added 13 points, shooting 5-of-13 from the field, including a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds and provided a defensive presence with two blocks.
