Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) has been recognized as the safest college in Florida and the sixth safest in the nation, thanks to its proactive campus safety measures, cutting-edge technology, and community partnerships.
Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) has earned the title of the safest college in Florida and ranks as the sixth safest in the nation, according to the 2024 rankings by Niche.com, a respected ranking and review website.
The recognition is a result of the college’s commitment to campus safety, led by Chief Aaron Murray, Executive Director of Campus Safety and Chief of Police. “Our recognition as the safest college in Florida is a testament to the dedication of our officers, the support of our College’s administration, and the strategic investments we’ve made in technology and training,” said Chief Murray.
NWFSC’s approach to safety includes rigorous officer training, strategic investments in advanced technology, and partnerships with local, state, and regional law enforcement agencies. Among its innovative measures is the use of a FLIR SkyWatch Mobile Surveillance and Deterrence Tower, which provides a high vantage point for monitoring outdoor events and addressing potential security concerns.
Interim President Dr. Cristie Kedroski expressed gratitude for the efforts of the campus police department, saying, “Northwest Florida State College is committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.”
The rankings were based on an evaluation of campus and community crime rates, rates of violent crimes, and student surveys on crime. NWFSC outranked 48 other Florida colleges and universities and placed among the top six of 1,200 institutions nationwide.
