Candidate for Florida Governor Nikki Fried is coming to Okaloosa County on April 14th to promote her candidacy to Florida’s next governor. Fried will host a meet-and-greet in Crestview at Mount Zion AMEβs Annex Building from 4:15 to 5:00.

Fried is the current agricultural commissioner for Florida and is competing with former Republican Charlie Christ to be the democratic nominee for governor. Jacob Ogles at Florida Politics reports Charlie Christ has a lead on Nikki Fried in the Democratic Primary as well.
The winner of the Democratic primary, set for August 23rd, will run against sitting governor Ron DeSantis to be the next governor of Florida. DeSantis won the governorship in 2018 against former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum by half a percentage point – about 33,000 votes.
Governor Ron Desantis won Okaloosa County with 71.39% of the vote in that election. In fact, Governor Ron DeSantis won almost 60,000 votes in Okaloosa County. Andrew Gillum won about 22,400 votes in Okaloosa County, according to the Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections. Almost 40% of registered voters stayed home in that election.

Realclearpolitics.com has DeSantis as the heavy favorite against Fried in a head-to-head matchup. A University of North Florida poll has Governor DeSantis as a 23-point favorite over Fried.
