February is all about the heart, and that includes taking care of it.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network recently sharedย new annual record numbers for heart transplants in 2022.ย GoFundMe saw more thanย 16,000ย heart-related fundraisers created in the past two years.ย

ย

As February marks the start of American Heart Health Month, many are turning to GoFundMe for help in causes that are close to their heart.ย

A fundraiser has been set up in Niceville for 5-year-old Nicolas by his uncle, Steven who explains, “A few days ago he fell sick while out at a family dinner. After a trip to the emergency room, he was admitted with numerous illnesses to include strep throat and a flu variant.ย Further tests revealed a heart that was not functioning efficiently or effectively; diagnosisโ€” myocarditis… This sweet little man has since been flown to several hospitals in critical care, and isย awaiting surgery to implant a device to help his heart pump, while he waits for a spot on the transplant list.ย The expense on his family is going to be massive so anything you can help with is going to be a huge blessing to his parents and two siblings.”
