Joe Morgan is Valparaiso’s next Mayor.
Morgan won a three-way election against Commissioner Chris Wasdin and Senior Center Liaison Patrick Palmer for the seat with a near majority of the city’s 830 cast ballots.
According to Morgan’s campaign Facebook Page, he “looks[s] forward to serving the city, its citizens, staff and commissioners.”
Neither Wasdin nor Palmer had posted to their public social media about the results of the election as of 8:30 PM Central time on March 10.
Valparaiso’s mayoral contest turned out more voters than the city’s last election, which Brent Smith and Patrick Palmer combined for about 700 votes.
Nearly 25% of the town’s electorate went to the polls to make their opinions known.
“I want to thank every citizen that voted. I truly appreciate the time you took out of your day to let your voice be heard,” Morgan said in his post on social media about the election results, “I would like to thank those of you who put your confidence in me to be your candidate for mayor. I look forward to serving the city, its citizens, staff and commissioners.”
Current Valparaiso Mayor Brent Smith will remain in the chief position on the dais until March 17, when the position will turn over and Morgan will be sworn in.
