Representative Maney has had a busy two years in the Florida State House. In 2022, Representative Maney was able to pass six bills in the state house – the most of any Freshman Representative in the Florida State House in 2022. 

Bills Passed in 2022

• • HB 873 – Removes from the public record all information about individuals and companies that supply materials to execute a prisoner convicted of a capital crime in Florida. The bill was also passed by the state senate and was signed by the governor. The bill can be found here. 

• HB 381 –  This bill reduces the transportation costs that a bail bondsman must incur after recovering a fugitive from justice. More information on the bill (including a good explanation) can be found here. 

• HB 3643 – This bill would have appropriated money for the Ocean City-Wright Fire Department. The bill was vetoed by Governor Ron DeSantis. 

• HB 3721- This bill would have allocated money for improvements on roadways in Laurel Hill. The bill was vetoed by the governor. 

• HB 3753 – Fort Walton Beach Hill Avenue and Anchors Street Complete Street Project Design. This bill was vetoed by the governor.

• HB 4553 – This bill would have put money in the state budget for an auxiliary water pump for the Destin Harbor. The bill was vetoed by the governor. 

Before Politics

Maney, 74, was elected to the Florida House of Representatives for the first time in 2020. He replaced Representative Mel Ponder, who decided not to seek re-election and instead ran for and won a seat as an Okaloosa County Commissioner. 

Prior to his election to the State House of Representatives, Maney served in Okaloosa County as a judge. He also retired from the United States Army as a general. Maney served as a lawyer in the army and earned a purple heart.
