SANTA ROSA BEACH – The Seacoast Collegiate High School robotics team earned a second-place standing in the 32-team AeroCoast League following its opening competition in Panama City on Oct. 24. The team, known as TOAST, won all five of its qualification matches at the FIRST Tech Challenge event.
According to a press release from the school, the team’s performance resulted in a ranking within the top 5% of teams tracked worldwide by FTCScout, an independent statistics website. Coach Chad Thurman credited the result to the students’ hard work and practice time. In the competition, student-led teams design, build, and program a robot to complete tasks in a game format.
The team, now in its second season, is scheduled to compete in the league’s second meet on Nov. 7 in Tallahassee, where it plans to debut an updated version of its robot. The AeroCoast League season will continue with a meet in January, followed by a league tournament where teams will compete for a spot in the state championship.
