Expect Delays In the Overnight Hours in Niceville on John Sims Pkwy
FDOT Road Work Map On John Sims Parkway in Niceville
The Florida Department of Transportation wants drivers who use John Sims Parkway in Niceville to know they are planning lane closures on the road during the overnight hours (9pm-6am) between Sunday, March 27th and Thursday, March 31st. You’ll have a chance of traffic congestion if you are on the road during those hours.
Crews will be adjusting manhole covers during that time.
Improvements on John Sims Parkway After Construction is Completed
John Sims Parkway, also known by its designation – SR-20, is currently being milled and resurfaced by contractors for FDOT.
The 2.62-mile span of road between Edge Avenue to the west and the Rocky Bayou Bridge to the east has a long list of improvements drivers are going to notice when the project is completed in 2023.
There are several improvements on tap, including:
- Milling and resurfacing all travel lanes, turn lanes, and medians.
- Constructing a new sidewalk on the north side of S.R. 20 from the Oak Creek Shopping Center to Rocky Bayou Drive.
- Constructing a grassed median west of Palm Boulevard.
- Widening the roadway at key locations to extend or shift existing turn lanes to improve traffic flow.
This project is anticipated to be completed in spring 2023.
The Information from the Florida Department of Transportation’s District Three (3) office warns that “all activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.”
