Hundreds Walk To End Alzheimers in Okaloosa County

On Sunday, hundreds gathered at the Air Force Armament Museum on Eglin Air Force Base for Okaloosa County’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Participants walked in honor of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative brain disorder impacting one in eight Florida seniors.

The event has raised over $26,000 to support care, research, and advocacy programs led by the Alzheimer’s Association’s Central and North Florida Chapter. Donations for the Okaloosa County Walk will remain open until December 31, allowing additional contributions to further support the cause. Donations can be made at alz.org/EmeraldCoastOCWalk.

Local sponsor Emerald Coast Hospice Care and national presenting sponsor Edward Jones were recognized for their support, helping to make the walk a success. This year’s walk emphasized the impact of Alzheimer’s on Florida’s diverse population, with higher prevalence rates among Black and Hispanic communities in the state. The Alzheimer’s Association notes that two-thirds of Alzheimer’s cases affect women, adding to the unique challenges in treatment and support.

For those needing guidance and support, the Alzheimer’s Association offers a 24/7 Helpline at 800-272-3900 and more information can be found on their website, alz.org.
